Will checking my options affect my credit score?
No. Checking your options with Car Loan Finder is a soft inquiry. A lender runs a full credit check only if you choose to move forward with an offer.
What credit score do I need for a car loan?
There is no single minimum. Canadian credit scores range from 300 to 900, and Equifax considers 660 and up good. Specialist lenders work with lower scores at higher rates.
What interest rate should I expect?
The average rate on new auto loans at Canadian chartered banks was 6.59% in August 2026 (Bank of Canada). Published ranges for bad credit run from 12–19% (fair) to 19–35% (poor).
What is the maximum interest rate a lender can charge?
Since January 1, 2025, the Criminal Code caps interest at 35% APR on consumer loans, including car loans.
What must a lender disclose before I sign?
The annual percentage rate (APR) and the total cost of borrowing, in writing. Compare those figures across offers, not only the monthly payment.
How do I check my credit report for free?
Both Equifax and TransUnion provide your credit report free. Review it for errors before you apply.
